Happy Anniversary to Innovation!
There have been almost 800 graduates over 10 years who, according to the latest data, in 92.5% of cases already have a job one year after graduation (30% of whom work abroad). These are the numbers that describe the first 10 years of the Master of Science program in Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology. EMIT celebrated its anniversary on 4 March at a party organized to compare the experiences accrued over the years (held at 5pm in Room N03, with an after party at TOM: The Ordinary Market). These professional experiences have been condensed into words by several EMIT graduates, connected by the common theme of innovation and analytical skills. This was the case for Federica Uccella, who graduated in 2009 (at the time the program was called CLEMIT). She looked innovation in the eyes every day at Google's headquarters in Dublin, where she was online sales account manager working in particular on client portfolio for AdWords campaigns. "If I had to describe innovation in three words, I would say chaos, synthesis and action. This is exactly what studying at Bocconi helped me with: it allowed me to develop my analytical skills. This, even more than creativity, helped me understand problems and, as a result, problem solving."
Sara Malvezzi echoes the same idea. She graduated in 2007 and is currently senior brand manager at the Purina Division of Nestlé: "I manage the Purina One products portfolio," says Sara. "Innovation and technologies are a big part of marketing nowadays. Communication is increasingly digital and multiscreen (created for multiple devices) and in my job I often come across aspects that I analyzed while at school." Additionally, continues the alumna, "the program provided a solid foundation in econometrics modelling that has been helpful when developing and honing my skills in analysis and reasoning. This is useful for the market analysis that is often used in marketing."
A wave of innovation also engaged Remo Giovanni Abbondandolo, who completed the EMIT program in 2010: active in startups, he traveled the world from Copenhagen, South East Asia and Australia (where he founded Rocket Internet Ventures' local team) and South Africa. He ended up in Dubai, where he is currently general manager of Travelstart, one of the largest online travel companies in the Middle East and Africa: "EMIT gave me the right mindset to focus on business 2.0. It also gave me a large network of people. This was very useful when, for instance, I needed to do recruiting. Since we shared the same type of academic background, I knew that the people I involved would have the same analytical mind I was looking for."
In addition to Federica, Sara and Remo, approximately 250 alumni from all over the world and from all years of the program were involved in the ten-year anniversary celebration. "The heart of the EMIT program, right from the start, has been innovation and technological change", says director Paola Cillo. These phenomena take on different forms in different sectors, from research and development of new molecules in the pharmaceutical industry, to the use of big data when creating new offers in the digital sectors, to social media in communication. What EMIT provides is an analytical method and the flexible and hybrid skills required to manage contexts in constant evolution that are often completely reshaped by technology."
