Global Alumni Scholarship Fund for Students of Finance and International Management
"If my father, who came from a very poor family, had not had the help of an uncle who was a priest, which allowed him to study, he would have been destined for a much more humble life". That is how Roberto Vavala, Bocconi alumnus (graduated in Business Administration in 1986), summarizes the spirit that motivated him to participate in the Global Alumni scholarship fund. Born at the Bocconi Alumni Global Conference 2015 in London, the fund aims to support merit scholarships for MSc students in Finance and in International Management at Bocconi University.
Vavalà, 55, is General Manager for the company Fresco System Tianjin of the Goglio Group. He responded to the appeal from the University and BAA during the 2016 Global Conference of the association in Shanghai. Overall, in the two editions of the Conference, economic support from alumni has reached the figure of 16,000 euros.
"The appeal to help the Fund immediately made me think of my father's story. He is is now 102 years old: throughout his life he was grateful for the opportunity he was given, and he made the best of his university degree", continues Roberto Vavala. "So I am of the idea that students who receive this type of support remain grateful to the institution that was able to make it available." And it is also a way to encourage the younger generation since "in today's globalized world, competition for entry into the world of work is even tougher and tighter than in the past". He concludes, thinking back to his alma mater: "I hope that my son would like, and will be able, to attend this university."
