Giuseppe Sala, Commissioner of the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015 and Managing Director of Expo 2015 S.p.A. is Bocconi Alumnus of the Year 2015. The President of the Bocconi Alumni Association (BAA), Riccardo Monti will present the award on 16 October during an evening event attended by Università Bocconi's top management, including President Mario Monti, Rector Andrea Sironi and Chief Executive Office Bruno Pavesi.

The Alumnus of the Year is awarded to the Alumnus who has distinguished himself by adhering to the Bocconi values of professionalism, initiative, integrity, responsibility and openness to pluralism.

"Giuseppe Sala is the emblem of a leader forged by our University: an executive at private and listed companies and a true civil servant, first for the City of Milan and then, by an almost natural convergence, for the Expo, a project with immense international reach. He is a man who is especially involved in current events, an undisputed leading player in the most challenging project of the past five years," says Ricardo Monti about the recipient.

"His professional path, working not only as a business manager but also as a civil servant, is proof that Giuseppe Sala embodies the values Università Bocconi conveys to its students and alumni: merit combined with a sense of responsibility. This sense of responsibility leads to taking on challenging roles, including public service," says Andrea Sironi.

"I am very pleased and very proud of this recognition, because I know that it is awarded according to only one criterion: merit," says Giuseppe Sala. "Bocconi has influenced my life and continues to represent an important point of reference for me: I have always been committed to my University, first as a student and then as an Alumnus, and in return I have received continuous and dedicated attention to my professional career."

A 1983 graduate in Economics and Business, Sala started his career at Pirelli, covering a variety of roles in the areas of management control, strategic planning, valuation and new business initiatives. In 1994, he became director of management control and strategic planning in the Pirelli tire sector and in 1998 he was named Managing Director of Pirelli Pneumatici. In 2001, he became Senior Vice President Operations, in charge of industrial and logistical facilities of the tire sector. In 2002, he took on the role of Chief Financial Officer at Tim, and from 2003 to 2006 he held the role of General Director of Telecom Italia. In 2007 and 2008, he was Senior Advisor for Nomura Bank. From January 2009 to June 2010, he was General Director of the City of Milan and, starting in June 2010, he was named Managing Director of Expo 2015 S.p.A. Between February and May 2012, he held the role of Chairman at A2A.

He has been Commissioner for the Government of Italy for Expo Milano 2015 since May 2013.
