Basketball, the Pellicani Advance to Serie B
Only narrowly missed a year ago, when it was defeated in a sprint in the decisive game, promotion to the B Interregional series for the University men's basketball team was clinched this year on Saturday, June 7, with an 81-76 victory in the interregional final against the Tuscan team of San Vincenzo. A victory at the end of a long season, with some ups and downs but always in the top positions of the group, until success in the playoffs. “The promotion marks a milestone in the evolution of the university sports project. The credit for this achievement goes, first and foremost, to our players: a team that reflects the entire Bocconi community, which includes students in the three- and two-year programs, members of SDA Bocconi and alumni too,” says Carlo Favero, the team's coach and a full professor in the University's Department of Finance. “Special thanks also go to the Bocconi Sport staff, who combine genuine passion with high-level technical and organizational skills, and to the entire Bocconi community, which enthusiastically supported the team throughout the season, filling the stands on home games and joining the boys all the way to Arona for the final.
“Having achieved this important goal, we may wonder: what is the next step?” Favero continues. “The answer that we immediately gave ourselves is a choice of vision and innovation: to give life to a single technical and organizational leadership for an integrated basketball project, which overcomes the traditional separation between men's and women's sports. A unified project, with two declinations, offering Bocconi students a concrete opportunity to combine study and sport at a competitive level, within a single framework of values, method and ambition.”
