Bocconi's Professor called to head ECB's research network on competitiveness

Carlo Altomonte (Department of Policy Analysis and Public Management) has been nominated academic coordinator of the Competitiveness Research Network (CompNet), a network which was instituted by the European System of Central Banks at the end of 2011 as a discussion forum in which to compare the different approaches on competitiveness, a topic that has been included in the supervising processes of the Euro zone as a leading factor of the crisis. The network, formalized by ECB's Governing Council at the beginning of April, has participants from all the national central banks of EU and from those international organizations that are interested in research on competitiveness, among which are: OECD, World Bank, European Commission and US International Trade Commission. Altomonte will work for a two year-project as an ECB visiting researcher with Filippo di Mauro, CompNet chairperson, and with the coordinators of the three work-streams into which the network is organized: Chiara Osbat (BCE) - Aggregate measures of Competitiveness, Jean Charles Bricongne (Banque de France)- Firm level and João Amador (Banco de Portugal) - Global Value Chains.

In CompNet's policy document (Conceptual Framework and Research Objectives), written together with Filippo di Mauro, Altomonte states that: "CompNet's ultimate objective will be to develop a framework in which a complementary use of micro and macro data can lead to an improved analysis of competitiveness".
