Prospective PhD Visiting Students
The PhD in Social and Political Science welcomes visiting doctoral students whose research interests align with our faculty’s expertise. Visiting students join a rigorous and interdisciplinary intellectual environment, with opportunities to engage with faculty, PhD students, seminars, workshops and research centers across Bocconi.
We particularly encourage applications from students working in political science, sociology, demography, public administration, economic history, political economy and related fields, and from those who would benefit from a period of close interaction with Bocconi faculty on an ongoing research project.
Prospective visiting students should submit a short application package including:
- a detailed CV and study plan from their home university
- a statement of purpose describing the research they plan to undertake while at Bocconi (one page maximum), and any indication of whether they have secured interest from a Bocconi faculty member
- a reference letter from the Director of their PhD program, with an optional confidential letter from their supervisor
- a list of Bocconi courses they would be interested in attending
- the proposed length of their stay
- a copy of their passport
- a passport-style photo in JPG format, minimum 400 × 600 pixels and no larger than 3 MB
Visiting students must attend or audit at least one PhD course, subject to approval and availability. Once authorized, the following fees apply:
- €100 fixed fee for students attending lectures only (no exams), regardless of the number of courses
- €200 per course for students attending lectures and taking exams
Further information on available courses is provided on the PhD in Social and Political Science ‘Courses and Requirements’ webpage. Course offerings may vary from year to year, and applicants will receive updated information depending on their proposed study plan.
The application package and any reference letters should be sent to phd.sps@unibocconi.it. Applications are reviewed for approval by the PhD Director on a rolling basis.
Please note that Bocconi cannot provide financial support through the Erasmus+ PhD student mobility program. Dedicated office space, desks or PCs cannot be guaranteed, but visiting students are welcome to use the shared room available to PhD students, whenever capacity permits.
