World Bachelor in Business: One Million Dollars in Scholarships

, by Susanna Della Vedova, translated by Alex Foti
The World Bachelor in Business was recently presented at Bocconi. It is a joint international program designed by the Milanese university together with the University of Southern California and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Università Bocconi, University of Southern California (USC), and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have launched the World Bachelor in Business (WBB), the first undergraduate degree of its kind, in that it will enable students to live and study across three continents, and be granted three Bachelor diplomas from three top universities, if they successfully complete the program.

The program was illustrated at Bocconi by Andrea Sironi, Università Bocconi's new Rector, Elizabeth Garrett, Provost and Senior Vice-President for Academic affairs at USC, and Eden Y Woon, Vice-President for Institutional advancement at HKUST.

During their four years of study in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Milano, WBB students will be supervised in each of the partner universities by a faculty of international renown. The program entails intensive classroom sessions, total immersion in the three countries, and a challenging job experience. The first 45 students to be admitted to the program, with applications coming from all over the world, will start their first academic year in the fall of 2013.

The idea behind the new degree in business is that each student will have to spend at least one year in each of the partner universities. The first year will be done in Los Angeles at USC Marshall School of Business, then the student will move to Hong Kong for his/her second year at HKUST Business School, and for the third year he/she will trade East Asia for the heart of Europe, by attending a year of classes at Bocconi in Milan. In the fourth year of the Bachelor program, students will be free to choose in which academic institution they intend to conclude their undergraduate degree.

The three universities have jointly made available $1 million in scholarships for first-year students of the World Bachelor in Business.

This innovative degree integrates curricular higher education with complementary activities that will expose students to various cultural, academic, and professional environments. Training in either business or law will have a global outlook, but will also delve deeply into individual economies, so that students will gain extensive knowledge of the various ways of doing business in the global economy. The curriculum offered by WBB provides solid education in economics and business, by focusing on the academic strengths of each of the three participating universities.

WBB students will explore Southern California's vibrant entrepreneurial cultural, meet with global bankers in Hong Kong's skyscrapers, and understand the intricacies of the European Union while honing their skills in business and economics when they will spend their year in Milan.

All classes will be taught in English, but students will be offered the opportunity to learn Italian, plus another European language, as well as Chinese.
