Speed MI Up Incubator Seeks Innovative Startups

, by Claudio Todesco
The new tender for 15 new entrants opens on October 3. The winning ideas will gain access to two years of value added services. A third office space soon to be opened

Speed MI Up seeks 15 new startups with international, viable and innovative ideas – not only in technological terms. The startups can access the services of the Speed MI Up incubator (www.speedmiup.it), via the new tender that opens today, Monday, March 6 and closes Friday, April 14.

The selected entrepreneurs will gain access to numerous value-added services: tutorship by the Bocconi faculty; periodical business reviews conducted by an Advisory Board; training by Bocconi, SDA Bocconi and Formaper staff; a Consulting Bureau on legal, financing, marketing and digital media; networking with investors; knowledge sharing meetings.

Some services are offered by Speed MI Up's partners: UBI Banca (funding), PwC (advice on tax and legal issues), Mediamatic (digital communication plans), Imageware (communication and media planning), Aruba (cloud computing), and, from now on: Amazon Web Services (clous computing services and Studio Franzosi Dal Negro Setti (legal services).

The tender is reserved for aspiring entrepreneurs and startups established over the last 20 months. The selection committee will rate the startups based on an elevator pitch (a video of 3 minutes maximum), a business plan, participants' resumes and, in some cases, an interview. Startuppers can find in the Speed Mi Up website a 12-hour videocourse teaching them how to draw up a business plan and directions about the making of the elevator pitch.

Launched in 2013 and at its ninth tender, the incubator can already show some success stories such as Cercaofficina.it (online quotes research for car repairs), D1 Milan (watches), Diferente (drinks with no alcohol), My Cooking Box (the chef in a box), One Tray (sponsored trays for security checks at airports), Quattrocento (eyeglasses' ecommerce), Mind the Gum (food supplement in the form of chewing gum) and Wash Out (home car wash service).

Unlike other incubators, Speed MI Up does not enter the capital of the startups, thus preserving their value and entrepreneurial freedom

Bocconi University, Milan Chamber of Commerce and the City of Milan, the promoters of Speed Up MI, offer up to 15 seats, and the notice is directed both to entrepreneurs and to startups established over the past 20 months. Startups may be located anywhere, but will have to transfer to the province of Milan within three months.

It offers a period of incubation and acceleration, which includes two years of incubation and five more years, during which startups will continue to take advantage of some of the services offered by the incubator. In the near future a third office space will open in via Bocconi, the quarters of via Gobbi 5 and via Achille Papa 30.
