Two days to learn, discuss and understand the unthinkable, revolving around the topic of growth. This was the objective of the sixth edition of Unthinkables, the event organized by the Bocconi Alumni Association, which was held on Friday and Saturday 30-31 March, in the Aula Magna in Via Roentgen. It was an opportunity for economists, managers, faculty and entrepreneurs to debate, including Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler, Gianmario Tondato Da Ruos, Managing Director of Gruppo Autogrill, Carlo De Benedetti, President of L'Espresso, and the Head Economist of Deutsche Bank, Thomas Mayer.

The objective of the 2012 edition was to invite all participants and speakers to reflect upon which tools and processes are necessary today to handle the issue of growth and share input and experiences from several leading players in the economic life (and growth) of our country. There were a total of 15 managers who told their stories, talked about their careers, the institutions that changed their lives and the daily battles "on the front lines" in markets around the world.

The style and format of this conference aims to be innovative and dynamic, making it different form traditional conferences. Days are divided into several large topic sessions, during which the pace is articulated by alternating plenary sessions full of content and collaborative workshops in small workgroups. Each session (50 minutes with all participants and 3 speakers) allows attendees to hear important accounts and contributions from each speaker, along with Università Bocconi faculty members, elaborating on what was learned during the topic-based workshops to explore settings, possibilities and alternatives and to discuss with the speakers themselves what emerges during group work.

Participating were André-Michel Ballester (CEO, Sorin Group), Stefano Beraldo (Managing Director, Gruppo Coin), Isabella Chiodi (EU Vice President, Ibm), Claudio Costamagna (President, Advise Only), Carlo De Benedetti (President, Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso), Alberto Grando (Dean, SDA Bocconi School of Management), Pietro Guindani (President, Bocconi Alumni Association and President, Vodafone Italia), Sergio Marchionne (CEO, Fiat and Chrysler), Thomas Mayer (Chief Economist, Deutsche Bank Group), Carlo Mazzi (Deputy Chairman, Prada), Marco Milani (Managing Director, Indesit Company), Angelos Papadimitriou (CEO, Coesia), Ivan Pavesio (Innovation & Experimentation Process Management, Ferrero), Andrea Pontremoli (CEO, Dallara Automobili), Sarwant Singh (Partner, Frost & Sullivan), Guido Tabellini (Rector, Università Bocconi) and Gianmario Tondato Da Ruos (CEO, Autogrill).
