Kashmir, a New Musical with the Classics and Rock
Shakespeare and Kashmir were featured for the third musical at Bocconi, a project in collaboration with students in the Bocconi Associazione Arte, Cultura, Teatro e Musica and professionals Raffaele D'Ambrosio,Andrea Narsi (directors) amd Comasia Palazzo (choregrapher). After the success of the first two editions, with Chicago and Acrosse the Universe, this time the Shakespearian comedy Much Ado About Nothing set in Messina was rewritten for the British colony in Kashmir and set to rock music. The musical was held on Wednesday and Thursday 23-24 May at 8:30pm, in the University Bocconi Aula Magna in the Via Roentgen building.
"This work required the play to be completely rewritten," says Andrea Carucci, who organized the event along with Emanuele Arena, Giulia Perin, Carola Trematerra and Dario Zizzi, "using rock music from the '70s and '80s by AC/DC, Deep Purple, the Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, and many others."
Musical in Bocconi is a complete educational experience that began in 2008, with the aim of promoting art and culture in a university environment, as well as acting as an element to bring students together on campus. With the collaboration of professionals in 2010, the project underwent a radical change, reaching a semi-professional level. "We learned to manage a budget, seek out sponsors and establish contacts with the various groups at the University," continues Carucci, "but we were also very careful when selecting the cast, some of whom had participated in previous musicals, some of whom who were new."
For the first time this year, the show will take advantage of a collaboration with the Accademia di Brera for the staging and the Scuola Civica di Cinema for video production during the show and backstage. This is the first step, says Carucci, "for a broader project, which can go beyond the University and open up to increasingly important collaborations."
Tickets to the show, which will also be performed during matinees for schools, are available at the Reef Bar on Via Bocconi.
