The member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank and MBA graduate at SDA Bocconi in 1992 receives the acknowledgement for his commitment in favour of the institutions

Joerg Asmussen, member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, is the Alumnus Bocconi of the Year 2013. The award, which honours an alumnus who has distinguished himself for his adherence to the Bocconian values of professionalism, initiative, integrity, responsibility and openness to pluralism, goes to the German economist, who graduated at the Master of Business Administration (MBA) of SDA Bocconi in 1992. The award will be presentedto Mr Asmussen on October 25th during a gala event.

"I am especially pleased that this year the award goes to an Alumnus who, like Asmussen, has continuously committed himself to the service of the institutions of his own country (where he fulfilled the role of State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Finance) and Europe," comments Mario Monti, president of Università Bocconi. "I have had the opportunity, over the years, to get to know Joerg Asmussen closely and to observe how strong and well-deserved is his reputation, in Germany and in Europe. In his position as State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Finance and, more recently, as member of the Executive Board of the ECB, Asmussen has been of the most significant protagonists of the construction of the European economic and monetary union. For Bocconi it is reason of great satisfaction to observe the notable international high-profile of one of its Alumnus, who chose to complete his studies at out university."

At the time of his admission in SDA Bocconi, Asmussen had declared his desire to attend the MBA with the precise intent of acquiring the managerial capabilities that, combined to the macroeconomic capabilities obtained through his university studies in Bonn, would have allowed him to move with ease in the role of public servant to which he aspired.

"I am very grateful and feel very honored receiving this award, not least in view of the impressive list of former Alumni of the Year. Coming back to Milan and Bocconi on this occasion reminds me of the wonderful experience studying at Bocconi meant to me," declares Asmussen. " The time at Bocconi and especially my teacher at the time Mario Monti contributed significantly in shaping my thinking as an economist and manager and as a European with a German passport."

"Asmussen is a champion of the values which belong to Bocconi and to Europe. For this reason the Bocconi Alumni Association is proud to include him in its community of illustrious Alumni", declares the President of the Bocconi Alumni Association (BAA), Pietro Guindani. "Asmussen proves that Università Bocconi and SDA Bocconi school of management develop people of exceptional value and international profile, able to take leadership position both in private corporations and in public institutions."
