Rector Gianmario Verona discusses the evolution of the pharmaceutical industry with Giovanni Caforio, Chairman and CEO of BristolMyers Squibb, in a video of the Executive Chats series

The pharmaceutical industry's evolution is following two lines, open innovation and patient-centricity, according to Giovanni Caforio, Chairman and CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb. Bocconi's Rector, Gianmario Verona, met the manager in the sixth instalment of the Executive Chats series.

The open model of innovation entails collaboration with an ecosystem of actors including biotech companies, academia, hospitals and government agencies, Mr. Caforio says, and putting the patient at the center of everyone's care is the best way to make this collaboration effective and reach the joint objective to bring the right medicine to the right patient at the right time.

Mr. Caforio also urges Bocconi students to live a breadth of experience early in their careers: «Expose yourself to different jobs, different experiences, different environments, and different issues and problems – possibly in different countries».
