Industry and War
Università Bocconi is getting ready for a double vernissage Monday, 18 January at 6pm. An exhibit by Mario Sangiovanni will be inaugurated in the Sala Ristorante, focusing mostly on Neapolitan industrial scenes. As a visitor to one of his previous exhibits wrote, his art depicts "a ruinous, thin landscape with sheets of asbestos emerging, slices of light blue above rotten green, wounded by pools of poppies, and gashes of yellow bile."
Reflecting his experiences as a soldier during the campaign in Russia and later when he was deported to Germany, an exhibit by Giuseppe Novello (1897-1988) will be inaugurated in the Sala Soggiorno Foyer. The artist from Codogno, who fought in both world wars, has exhibited at both the Milan Permanente and the Venice Biennale. He was one of the promoters of the Bagutta "last supper" with Bacchelli, Monelli, Vergani and others and also worked as the political cartoonist at the newspaper La Stampa.
