The European Economy and Youth: Jyrki Katainen at Universita' Bocconi
The Juncker investment plan to boost economic growth in the EU and youth employment outlook are the topics Jyrki Katainen, European Commission Vice-President, responsible for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, will tackle in a speech at Università Bocconi on 16 January (3 p.m., Aula Magna, via Gobbi 5), titled The EU's Growth and Jobs Agenda: what's in it for you(th).
Katainen will be introduced by Bocconi's President, Mario Monti, while the University's Rector Andrea Sironi will make the closing remarks. Corriere della Sera's journalist Gianna Fregonara will preside over the debate.
The event - organized in collaboration with The European Commission representation in Italy, Office in Milan - will be the second Universiday event held at Bocconi, after American director Spike Lee's talk. Launched on 17 October with an event for international students, Universiday is an initiative promoted by Corriere della Sera with the MiWorld association and Milan's Chamber of Commerce, Municipality and universities. Under the Universiday umbrella a series of events will unfold for six months, until April 2015, with talks – a series of scientific and cultural events – and contests that will test students' abilities in writing, music, photography, videomaking, urban art.
Before taking office as EC Vice-President, Katainen (b. 1971) was Prime Minister of Finland from 2011 to June 2014 and European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro from 16 July, 2014, to 1 November, 2014, under the presidency of José Manuel Barroso.
