Demography at High Altitude

, by Fabio Todesco
The third edition of Alp-Pop, the Alpine Population Conference in La Thuile on January 13-16

Macro-level demographic processes; health and well-being; migration and ethnicity; stratification, work and family; and fertility will be the topics of Alp-Pop 2013 (La Thuile, January 13-16, 2013), the third edition of the Alpine Population Conference.

This year Università della Svizzera Italiana's Center for Economic and Political Research on Aging (CEPRA) joins Bocconi's Dondena Center for Social Dynamics and Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in the organization of the event.

Michele Boldrin (Washington University), Daniel Lichter (Cornell University), Giovanna Merli (Duke University) and Sharon Sassler (Cornell University) will be the keynote speakers of the conference, which includes also the presentation of some twenty papers in the main sessions and a posters session on Monday evening.

"Alp-Pop", the conference website explains, "brings together scholars interested in population issues across several disciplines, among them demography, economics, and sociology. The conference emphasizes empirical rigor and innovation over a given topic or geographical area, and meets the challenges of interdisciplinary and international audiences".
