Dear Bocconi Community

, by Gianmario Verona, Rector of Bocconi University
The first message of new Rector Gianmario Verona to students, alumni, staff and faculty of Bocconi

Dear Bocconi Community,

Good morning to everyone: Starting today it is my honor and privilege to serve as the Rector of our University.

With this message, I would like first to thank Andrea Sironi and his rectorate team and to share the emotions and the positive energy I feel as I begin my two-year term. Since 21 June, the day after my appointment was announced by the University Board, I have been preparing myself to perform this role to the best of my abilities.

The first task on my list was to assemble my team: eleven colleagues who will be on the front lines as Deans. They have already shown great commitment and energy in the first stages of our work together, and I am grateful to them for having accepted their appointments.

Over the past few months, I have been able to meet with many of you around campus, both formally and informally. I particularly enjoy this spontaneous way of hearing from you and getting to know what you are thinking. During these conversations, one common denominator has emerged: a deep and amazing attachment to Bocconi.

Thus, I begin my first day as Rector with two convictions.

The first is that Bocconi is a strong institution, proud of its roots but focused on the future. The Bocconi 2020 Strategic Plan sets out a series of challenges, and Bocconi is ready to face them.

My second conviction is that the Bocconi community – students, alumni, staff, faculty, all of us – is made up of people who truly care about the University, a care they express with commitment and passion. I believe that this community is Bocconi's true DNA, a strength that will help us innovate and make the future here even more distinctive.

Trusting in these two convictions, I believe that the Rectorate team will be able to get each of you involved as we take up the challenges that await us. This is our opportunity to decisively confirm Bocconi's standing among the European leaders in global higher education.

I look forward to your collaboration and constructive feedbacks moving forward, and I offer my best wishes for a great continuation of the academic year.

Arrivederci!
