Alp-Pop, the Many Faces of Population
The Director of the Dondena Center and Fellow at IGIER, Vincenzo Galasso, defines the conference "a netrowking opportunity for scholars with various backgrounds, interested in the topic of population." At Alp-Pop: The Alpine Population Conference (La Thuile, 9-12 January 2011), organized jointly by IGIER and the Dondena Center, more than 30 papers will be presented by scholars of demographics, sociology, economics and other disciplines, with Alberto Alesina (Harvard University) and Hans-Peter Kohler (University of Pennsylvania) attending as keynote speakers. Topics include fertility, gender, aging, migrations, culture, health, family relations and education.
"The conference does not focus on a single topic or geographic area," explain the organizers, "but rather emphasizes empirical rigor and innovation, such as the ability to face the challenges of an interdisciplinary audience."
