After Volkswagen: Multinationals' Sustainability and Responsibility
The Volkswagen affair, the risks of climate change and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals challenge businesses and management education. A first response is the Annual Colloquium of The Academy of Business in Society (ABIS), a network of 130 companies and academic institutions, which will tackle the topic of Global Sustainability Strategy on 20 and 21 October at Bocconi University.
The Colloquium plenary session, on 20 October at 11 a.m., will be open to Bocconi students attending courses in social sustainability and business ethics, in order to mark the relevance of these themes in management education. Among the plenary session speakers will be Janos Pasztor, UN Assistant Secretary General on Climate Change. Mario Monti will open the Colloquium and Jacques Attali will close it.
Policy and practice alignment in Multinationals' subsidiaries will be at the center of a paper presented by Bocconi University Assistant Professor Anne Jacqueminet.
"More generally", explains Bocconi University's Filippo Giordano, one of the local organizers, "we'll analyze the role of the three main sustainability players: public institutions, MNEs and citizens, well aware that MNEs' behavior is becoming more and more relevant".
