Acting course: Break A Leg

Theatre Workshop in English

Organized by Teatro Franco Parenti in collaboration with Associazione Pier Lombardo for Bocconi University

Why “Break a Leg”?

In the British and American theatre tradition, actors are wished good luck before going on stage with the phrase “Break a leg!”. It may sound ominous — no one actually wants to break a leg while performing Shakespeare — but in theatre, it’s considered a lucky charm. Saying “good luck,” ironically, is thought to bring misfortune.

Theatre thrives on paradoxes, reversals, and sudden shifts in perspective. In this spirit, Break a Leg! is more than a superstition: it represents energy, wit, creativity, courage, and just a touch of madness — qualities essential to every true act of creation.

Workshop Overview

This English-language theatre workshop uses the tools and techniques of performance to develop expressive, communicative, and relational skills. Participants will strengthen their soft skills through play, creativity, and teamwork.

At the end of the program, students will collaborate on a final showcase performance, presented during the Campus Life open day, applying the theatre techniques they’ve learned. The course covers every phase of acting: group foundation, physical and vocal training, improvisation, text creation, rehearsal, and live performance.
