Photography as a Visual Language: 4 Hands-On Workshops to Develop Technical and Creative Skills

The lab offers the opportunity to explore photography as a creative tool for observation, communication, and visual storytelling, learning how to transform everyday subjects and environments into meaningful images. Through guided outdoor exercises and discussion with the instructor, participants will develop both technical abilities and a greater awareness of the expressive potential of photography.

The course is open to anyone interested in photography, and no previous experience is required. Whether for personal enrichment or as a transferable skill applicable to their professional development, participants will acquire fundamental skills in digital photography, develop a greater understanding of light, composition, and visual storytelling, and learn how to create effective images for personal, academic, and professional purposes.

Through a hands-on approach, the program guides participants from observing and interpreting a subject to creating thoughtful and impactful photographs. By the end of the course, they will have strengthened their observational skills, developed a more critical approach to image analysis, and gained a deeper understanding of photography as a creative and expressive language.

Program

Participants will explore the fundamentals of photography through a series of practical exercises covering:

• Understanding the camera and controlling exposure
• Composition and visual balance
• Working with natural light
• Urban landscape photography
• Street photography and visual storytelling
• Final photographic project (based on either an assigned or independently-selected theme, culminating in a collective review and discussion of the work produced)

Each session (of approximately 2 hours) combines a brief introduction, practical demonstrations, guided exercises, and a group discussion of the photographs produced.

• DSLR camera, mirrorless camera, or smartphone
• Fully charged batteries
• Memory card

• Saturday, 3 October (11:00am-1:00pm) 
• Friday, 16 October (4:45-6:45pm) 
• Saturday, 17 October (11:00am-1:00pm) 

The course will be held at the Campus Life space, located at Via Bocconi 12 (basement level).

The activity is open also to Faculty and Staff Members, but priority will be given to students.
