The lesson
Recent shifts in the global political and economic order raise important questions about the future of sustainability governance. The European Union, increasingly focused on safeguarding its competitiveness and economic resilience, has adopted the Omnibus package—a set of measures aimed at fostering a more favorable business environment and reducing regulatory burdens on companies. Within this framework, a simplification of sustainability-related procedures and investment programs is expected, and the implementation timelines of key sustainability regulations have been postponed.
Despite these adjustments, the EU has reaffirmed its commitment to the Green Deal, emphasizing that sustainability and competitiveness must advance together. This session will introduce prospective graduate students to the major sustainability challenges of our time and explore the evolving role of sustainability regulation within the broader context of global economic and political transformation.
