Economic and Asset Situation - A.Y. 2027-2028

Information being updated

The University assesses applications on the basis of circumstances that are clear, complete, properly documented, and economically coherent. Bocconi therefore considers the financial sustainability of the circumstances presented.

All documentation submitted must be complete and mutually consistent and must provide a coherent representation of the conventional family household’s overall economic, financial, and asset position. Declared income must be reasonably consistent with the household’s assets, bank account balances, savings and financial resources.

Where these requirements are not met, the application will be considered incomplete, and no benefit will be awarded.

The assessment considers the following elements for each member of the Bocconi conventional family household.

Financial sustainability of studying in Milan

Any financial benefit awarded by Bocconi University does not cover accommodation, living expenses or other costs associated with the student’s relocation to and stay in Milan.

The average cost of accommodation and living expenses in Milan is generally estimated at approximately € 20,000 per year. A student enrolling in a three-year programme should therefore consider an overall financial commitment of approximately € 60,000, in addition to any tuition and fees not covered by the benefit awarded.

The financial sustainability of the student’s relocation to and stay in Milan is therefore an essential aspect of the decision to undertake the programme. Students and their conventional family households are expected to carefully assess and plan how these costs will be met for the full duration of the programme, as they remain entirely outside the scope of the financial benefit awarded by the University and cannot be borne by Bocconi.

These estimates have been determined by considering the information on the cost of living in Milan published by YesMilano, the city’s official promotion portal.

Bocconi University considers the total gross income received in 2025 in the applicant’s country and abroad, including income that is tax-exempt and income that, by its nature, is not included in income tax returns.

Gross income is also considered where it is tax-exempt or received without the application of withholding tax.

Bocconi University considers real estate and movable assets owned in 2025 in the applicant’s country and abroad.

In particular, real estate assets include buildings, land, and building areas and are assessed according to their market value. This assessment also applies to rights held over real estate, including, for example, rights of residence and other rights of use or enjoyment.

The composition of the movable assets, contrarily, is defined in accordance with the national regulations provided in Article 5, paragraph 4, of Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers No. 159/2013 and subsequent amendments.

Entrepreneurial, professional, and artistic activities are assessed based on the type of activity conducted, its structural characteristics—including revenue, workforce composition and cost, asset structure, minimum income levels, and other relevant elements—sector-specific parameters, comparative data, and any other significant factors.

All entrepreneurial, professional, and artistic activities conducted in the applicant’s country and abroad, including those arising from the ownership of equity, are taken into consideration.

Only applications duly completed and submitted through the prescribed online procedure by the applicable deadline will be assessed for the award of financial benefit.

The Fees, Funding and Housing Office assesses the household’s overall economic and asset situation on the basis of the information and documentation submitted through the dedicated online application. In determining the household’s ability to contribute, the University considers both income and assets — including real estate, movable assets, bank account balances, savings, and other financial resources — also in relation to the overall population of applicants to Bocconi University.

All information and supporting documentation must be complete, mutually consistent, and verifiable and must provide a clear and coherent representation of the household’s actual circumstances. In particular, declared income must be reasonably consistent with the balances shown in the household’s bank accounts. No benefit may be awarded where the documentation is incomplete, the information is inconsistent or economically incoherent, or the information submitted does not correspond to the outcome of the University’s checks.

The University also assesses whether the financial means demonstrated are adequate to meet the student’s estimated accommodation and living expenses in Milan for the full duration of the programme.

Where, following the assessment carried out on the basis of the parameters set out above, the economic and asset position presented shows elements that are not fully consistent, the University may decide not to award any benefit or may award a lower level of financial support. The decision will take into account the overall consistency of the information provided and the adequacy of the documented financial resources.

The above-mentioned provisions constitute the official publication of the regulations for the a.y. 2027-2028 regarding the determination of the economic and asset situation of the conventional Bocconi family household.
