My research bridges the areas of Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to tackle complex, computationally intensive problems in biology and medicine. The overarching goal of my research is to propose AI-based approaches and tools to deepen our understanding of the processes that drive both cell development and the progression of various pathologies, moving us another step toward personalised and regenerative medicine.
Thus, my main scientific interests include AI, Machine Learning, Computational Intelligence, High-Performance Computing, Computational Biology, and Bioinformatics, which converge in DECODE, the project on decoding the language of single-cell gene regulation with Transformers that I lead as Principal Investigator under a FIS Starting Grant (Fondo Italiano per la Scienza, € 1.2M).
