Health Insurance

Before their arrival, students should ensure they  are properly covered in case they require  medical care during their stay in Italy. Bocconi University does not provide students with an insurance policy. Students should check if the social security scheme in their  country of residence covers the cost of medical treatment in Italy.

EU citizens: be sure to bring the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which entitles the holder to get necessary treatment at the same cost as  citizens of the host country. The card is valid only for state-provided services, as private healthcare is not covered. We recommend that , before departure, students verify with the social security administration of their home country how to obtain  the card and which services are covered.

EU citizens can also apply for Form S1. They should obtain their S1 form from the healthcare institution of their  home country before  departure. Students should confirm eligibility with the social security institution of their country of residence, as requirements may vary between EU member states.

Non-EU citizens: before leaving their home country these students are strongly advised to obtain health insurance  with international coverage. To apply for a Permit of Stay, students will be required to prove that they are covered for medical expenses  for the entire duration of their stay in Italy.
