The Future is here: the Challenges of Exponential Technologies
The pace of change driven by Exponential Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, 3D Printing, Genetics, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology and Blockchain is making it increasingly difficult for many people to understand the present society and to cope with the future.
Not only are they powerful more than any other seen in history, both taken individually and in their combined and converging effects, but they also grow at a speed that makes it difficult to perceive them until they have already come to mass adoption.
It is never been this important to learn how to face and think about the future, to imagine future scenarios and make the choices of today, according to the direction in which we want to go tomorrow.

- 1st Lesson – Emerging Technologies and the future
We live in an age of transformational changes: the development and spread of emerging technologies is happening at a speed never seen before. In the first meeting of the cycle, we will learn more about these technologies and reflect on their ethical and social impacts.
- 2nd Lesson – How the new technologies are disrupting
production processes and business models
Artificial intelligence, 3D printing, Internet of Things, Virtual, Mixed and Augmented Reality, and are technologies have the potential to deeply change the production processes and the job market. For companies, but also for workers, it is important to understand and seize new opportunities.
- 3rd Lesson - Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation: a closer
What is artificial intelligence? Why is it important? What are the possible applications today and in the next 5-10-20 years? In this lesson we will have a look to many different sectors and case studies and reflect on possible threaths and opportunities.
- 4th Lesson - Genetics, Biotechnologies and Nanotechnologies:
applications and future evolutions
Among the research areas that are growing fast and which could lead to major changes in the near future there are certainly Biotechnologies and Nanotechnologies. What are their applications? What results could research in these areas bring in the near future? From genetic editing to personalized medicine, the opportunities are many and potentially disruptive but the risks should not be underestimated.
- 5th and 6th lessons – Workshop: future critical thinking and
designing: how to create innovative futures
How do you use the future as a tool for our strategies? In the last two events of the cycle, we will see closely what it means to approach the future as a science using Foresight methodologies that we will test together: we will learn to build future scenarios with collaborative and creative methods (scenarios will include applications of the technologies discussed in the first 4 lessons).
