The Good and the Bad in Austerity

Austerity is not hell on Earth, as many are led to believe. The reality portrayed by data says otherwise, unmasking comforting myths and narratives. This is the conclusion reached by Alberto Alesina, Carlo Favero, and Francesco Giavazzi after surveying more 200 austerity programs implemented by 16 different countries from the 1970s until today. Belgium, Ireland, and Canada emerge as among the most successful country cases.
