Geopolitics
Within the activities offered by Arts and Humanities, Bocconi University gives students the opportunity to deepen topics related to contemporary geopolitics, thanks to courses and seminars realized in collaboration with ISPI.
The agreement with ISPI allows Bocconi students to approach to the knowledge of geopolitical dynamics of the current international scenario.
The Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), founded in 1934, is one of the most prestigious Italian study and research center, focused on geopolitical and global political-economic trends analysis.

In addition to the opportunities below, the agreement with ISPI includes other courses, exclusively reserved to students enrolled in Master of Science programs, that are offered as "enhancing experience". Further information are available in the dedicated webpage.
1st semester
Bocconi University and ISPI School offer a number of Winter School on contemporary geopolitics topics, that take place during the weekend with an intense mode format.
Courses will be delivered online on two consecutive days from 9am to 6:30 pm and will be offered in Italian.

Program
The workshop “Understanding the World Around You” will offer students the opportunity to be informed and debate some of the key issues in contemporary geopolitics through the lens provided by relevant international sources of information (press and TV). The main topic will be: “Elections and Democracy".
ELECTIONS AND DEMOCRACY
In 2024 countries with a collective population of about four billions will go to the ballots. In most of them and for different reasons, democracy - or at least its quality - is at stake.
Party programs and electoral rallies are not anymore the main tools to rise consensus. The new dangerous normal are populism, religion, vested economic interests and, increasingly, hacking operations, disinformation campaigns and artificial intelligence misuse originated by domestic and external actors.
Among the several nations that will go to vote in the coming year, we have chosen three countries from three different continents:
> South Africa. From Nelson Mandela to “State of “Disaster”.
> India. How to Save the Largest Democracy of the World.
> The United States. The Election of the Elections.
The approach will be more journalistic than academic: we will start from the latest news on international relations and geopolitics, moving from hard news - the need to be informed now on what is going on - to slow news - the need to get deeper into the event, analyzing it why it happened and its possible effects.
The workshop will allow students to:
— expand their knowledge on international relations and geopolitics,
— go through the most important breaking news of the week or of the day,
— develop their critical and analytical capacities on reading the news,
— share their ideas and join in with active discussions.
Before the scheduled appointments, students will be invited to keep up with the international news on an agreed subject.
Calendar: 5-12-17 October from 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm
The course will be held online through Blackboard.
Students who attend all the 3 classes will be given a certificate of participation.
