This program provides both a deep understanding of Data Science and knowledge in Economics and Management: it combines a solid grounding in Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science with fundamental training in Economics, Management and Law. The result is a unique mix of hard skills and foundational knowledge

This program uses the study of economics and management to lay the basis of a sound theoretical mindset. That foundation is integrated with computer, mathematical and information processing skills.
During the third year, students will be exposed to advanced subjects on Big Data and databases, advanced economics models of mechanism design and game theory, techniques for marketing analytics and the management of information systems.
They will also have the opportunity to study at leading universities abroad and/or take part in internships in Italy or elsewhere.
Seminars with partner companies provide insights from the real world that will help understand how important people can be in the midst of all this data. As a graduate, your ability to find the right theoretical models for interpreting a problem, and to communicate what you have inferred to different kinds of stakeholders will be the talents that will position you favorably in tomorrow’s data-driven business world.

First foreign language

During the first year you will be exposed to the fundamental notions that will accompany you during the next years of your degree.
In Mathematics, students will be exposed to the fundamentals of multi-variable calculus, single-variable integral calculus, and the foundations of discrete math, with an introduction to matrices and linear systems.
In Statistics, we develop the fundamentals of learning from data in a series of themes, starting with various real datasets and scientific questions, and then develop statistical, probabilistic, computational and visualization methods for extracting useful information from the available data.
Fundamentals of Computer Science will introduce you to the theoretical aspects of computer science such as computation theory, algorithmic complexity, graph theory, and basic algorithms, while also covering its practical aspects using the Python programming language (procedural and object-oriented programming).
The Microeconomics course combines mathematical rigor and a 360-degree vision of real-world economic and social phenomena to address fascinating questions about human behavior, such as consumption choice, labor markets, saving and investment decisions, the role of uncertainty in shaping human decisions, strategic behavior, market equilibrium and government interventions.
Principles of Management explains how organizations work and gives you the tools to analyze the business environment, assess a firm’s strategies, understand the determinants of profitability, and make managerial decisions in uncertain conditions.
Accounting will introduce you to the fundamental concepts and measurements underlying financial statements, the use of double-entry systems to report corporate transactions and the use of this information to make proper business decisions.
In IT Law, you will be offered an overview on the fundamentals of IT law (ISP liability, protection of freedom of speech and personal data on the Internet) in both a domestic and a broader European and comparative context.

In the second year, you will delve deeper into concepts assimilated in the first year and, at the same time, you will be led to discover new and exciting subjects.
Mathematics deals with linear algebra and its application to many algorithms in statistics, computer science and machine learning.
Advanced Statistical Methods will introduce you to more advanced topics in Probability and Statistics with the ultimate goal of fostering multivariable thinking, which is the backbone of modern approaches to inference and prediction.
Computer Programming will take you on a journey in the world of discrete and continuous optimization and bring your programming skills to the next level, introducing advanced notions in computer languages and guiding you through the implementation of complex algorithmic schemes.
In Machine Learning you will teach be taught you the fundamental techniques to develop and apply algorithms that enable computers to learn from data in order to make predictions or decisions.
In Econometrics, you will learn the main statistical methods for empirical economic analysis with time series, cross-sectional and panel data.
The course of Macroeconomics will introduce you to concepts and the methods to study the functioning of the aggregate economy and the impact of monetary and fiscal policy, with a special focus on the transition processes caused by globalization and digitalization.
Principles of Finance will provide you with a thorough understanding of how decision-makers value financial assets or firms and how managers decide on their capital budgeting (i.e. which investments to make), capital structure (i.e. how to raise capital), and payout policy (i.e. how to return profits to shareholders).

During the third year, you will be exposed to advanced subjects such as Big Data and Databases, that gives you an overview of data management architectures and analytics procedures aimed at organizing, describing and modeling Big Data (structured and unstructured), useful to translate the analytics outputs into meaningful business insights.
Marketing Analytics will expose you to the advanced instruments of modern marketing techniques (e.g. marketing metrics and models) to leverage marketing data in order to make an informed decision and shape marketing strategy.
Mechanism Design and Game Theory will introduce you to the advanced concepts in strategic thinking and rational decision making and help you achieve a thorough theoretical understanding of economic phenomena.
The IT Management course discusses how Information Systems are structured in different types of organizations (SMEs, MNCs) and in different industries, exploring their technical (HW, SW platform, databases, networks) and human components. A deep dive into the IS lifecycle enables students to understand the evolution of technical support to daily operations.

You’ll also have the opportunity to study at leading universities abroad and/or take part in internships in Italy or elsewhere. A wide choice of elective courses will allow you to delve into your favorite subjects. Seminars with partner companies (Amazon, Microsoft, SAS, IBM, CISCO, Oracle, etc.) will provide insights from the real world that will help you understand how important people can be in the midst of all this data.
