Permit of Stay

Non EU citizens:

 

Within 8 days from arrival, all non-Eu citizens who hold a study visa for Italy must apply for a permit of stay for study purposes. The permit of stay is issued by the local Questura Centrale (Main Police Department - Ufficio Stranieri ) of the applicant's place of residence in Italy but the request for the residence permit issue (first issuing and renewal) must be submitted to all qualified Post Offices :

1st STEP: DOCUMENTS REQUIRED BY THE POST OFFICE

  • Application filled in and signed by the interested party - "Modulo" 1 of the envelope yellow stripe for non-EU citizens (available for free at the Post Office)
  • Photocopy of Bocconi acceptance letter / enrolment summary (possibly sealed by the Italian Embassy / Consulate) 
  • Complete photocopy of passport (all pages) or other equivalent document (you must also show the original one)
  • Photocopy of insurance policy, valid throughout the country and for the entire period of validity of the resident permit, against the risk of illness and injury (1)
  • Marca da Bollo (Italian stamp duty) of € 14,62 (you can buy it in any tobacco shop)
  • Photocopy of the documentation  certifying to the availability of adequate financial resources for the validity period of the residency permit (EURO 5.317,15)
  • A copy of receipt of payment of € 27.50 for issue of the residence permit on electronic medium (only for request exceeding more than 90 days)

Cost: The cost of the application is 30,00 to be paid at the post office counter upon acceptance of the application.

Once identification of the applicant and checking of the required documentation have been completed, a registered letter receipt (mod.22A) is issued which lists the user ID and password needed to check the state of progress of the application (http://www.portaleimmigrazione.it/).

In a few days the applicant will receive by post a letter (raccomandata) from the Questura (Police Department) with the date of the appointment

 

2ndSTEP: DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AT THE QUESTURA
The following are extra documents you must produce for the Questura for the Permit of Stay:

  • Passport or other equivalent document 
  • Original Bocconi acceptance letter / enrolment summary sealed by the Italian Embassy / Consulate when the entry visa is issued 
  • 4 identical passport size photographs 
  •  Original health insurance policy + a photocopy, valid throughout the country and for the entire period of validity of the resident permit , against the risk of illness and injury (1)
  • A certificate of enrolment in the Bocconi academic program in Italian (available at punto blu if you already have your Bocconi badge. If not, if you are a regularly enrolled student or a free mover student you must ask for it at the Admission Office; if you are an exchange student you must ask for it at the International Student Desk)

EU citizens:

 

New Law about Permit of Stay for EU citizens.

EU citizens, starting from April 11, 2007 will NOT need to apply for the permit of stay (carta di soggiorno) at the Questura (Main Police Department), since this document has been abolished.

The Italian law requires that EU citizens staying in Italy for a period longer than 90 days must register at the registry office (Ufficio Anagrafe) of the city hall, in the town where they intend to reside, within 90 days of their arrival in Italy.

In order to register, the EU citizens must submit the required documentation to prove they are in possession of all requirements:

  1. Bocconi acceptance letter / enrolment certificate (printable at the Punto Blu)
  2. ID document + photocopy
  3. Proof of sufficient financial situation (most of the times Credit Cards are accepted as well) of at least 5.317,15 Euro 
  4.  Proof of Health Coverage;
        Form: E106 form (to be obtained from your home national sanitary system) or
    • private health insurance covering all sanitary expenses from your home country, OR
    • Health insurance INA Assitalia purchased in Italy at any Post Office (2)

HOW:

You have to visit http://www.comune.milano.it/portale/wps/portal/CDMHome

and click on the "servizi anagrafici" link under Servizi on-line in order to register and book your appointment at Anagrafe.

The closest Anagrafe is the one in Via Boifava 17 (Tram n. 3 toward Rozzano).

(1) A health insurance coverage is required in order to obtain your permit to reside in Italy, therefore if you have no other coverage upon your arrival in Italy, you will have to purchase INA ASSITALIA Insurance but, please note that it will only cover expenses in the event of emergency treatment and / or urgent hospitalization. INA-Assitalia: Payment for the Insurance Coverage must be made at the Post Office. Account N° 71270003 addressed to: INA-ASSITALIA Agenzia Generale di Roma c. n° 20 stating name, family name and address in Italy . The amount is Euro 49,00 for 6 months and Euro 98,00 for one year.

(2) A health insurance coverage is required in order to obtain your registration at the 'Registry Office of the City hall', therefore if you have no other coverage upon your arrival in Italy, you will have to purchase INA ASSITALIA Insurance for UE citizens but, please note that it will only cover expenses in the event of emergency treatment and / or urgent hospitalization. INA-Assitalia: Payment for the Insurance Coverage must be made at the Post Office. Account N° 92316009 addressed to: INA-ASSITALIA Agenzia Generale di Roma c. n° 82 stating: Polizza per cittadino Comunitario , name, family name and address in Italy . The amount is Euro 120,00 for 6 months and Euro 180,00 for one year.
