Dear Students,
Welcome to the Bocconi Undergraduate School!
It's not easy to summarize in a few words the wealth of education the School offers. And it's not easy to describe the importance the years spent at the University will have for your personal future. Let me then just cover three topics: the course structure within the School; the services offered by Bocconi; the experience of a lifetime.
Course Structure: most Bocconi Bachelor Degree programs (Business Administration and Management, Economics and Social Sciences, Economics and Finance, International Economics and Management) share a common core, imparting the fundamentals of business and economics that professionals regularly use within firms and organizations. Upon completion of this core, the student studies the characterizing subjects of his or her Degree program. Then, in the third year, the student is encouraged to choose from a wide range of elective courses, in order to deepen his or her own knowledge of a given field. This course structure provides students with intellectual rigour as well as choice, enabling them to pursue higher studies or enter the job market.
Services: higher education is not exclusively about classes and studying. People tend to neglect the importance of the working environment where academic activities take place. In turn, its quality depends on the efficiency of the services provided by the University. Bocconi has long excelled in this area, by thoroughly assisting students on academic procedures from registration to graduation, by providing exchange programs with other international universities, by offering opportunities for internships and career orientation, and in many other services to students.
Experience: Attending university will be very different from what you experienced in high school. First of all, it means moving away from home. Secondly, higher education involves a greater degree of freedom, which needs to be earned day by day through constant effort. We expect you to attend classes with enthusiasm, and interact with faculty in an active and intelligent way. Undergraduate studies are not simply about passing exams, but about understanding the material and making the concepts part of your individual knowledge, a fundamental asset in your future personal and professional life. Your university experience will also be decisively shaped by social relations. We encourage you to become involved in a wide range of social activities, inside and outside the University, so to enjoy a student life as full as possible, and to gain a better knowledge of others and yourself.
I am certain you'll remember your time at Bocconi as a fundamental period in your life, replete with stimulating experiences and new friendships. All of us, Bocconi faculty and employees, are committed to do everything possible to facilitate your learning experience.
