Interview with the Director
The Master of Science in Management and Economics in Arts, Culture, Media and Entertainment is designed to train professional managers and entrepreneurs in the arts and culture. In recent decades cultural industries and arts institutions have been playing a central and growing role within cultural environments as well as in the renewal of economies, territories and cities. This role is not only related to their capacity to produce cultural and economic values, but also to their multidimensional action on social and individual ethics, meanings and motivations. A professional management career in these industries can be a fascinating life experience, but requires special training combining cultural passion and knowledge with managerial skills.
Creative and cultural industries such as publishing, television, visual productions, design and fashion, as well as art markets and institutions in recent years have expressed an increasing need for a new type of manager, administrator and entrepreneur. These fields require highly-qualified professionals, well-trained in the languages, techniques and models of management, accounting and marketing but also aware of the specificities and complexities of the artistic fields; professionals that can connect managerial practices to those of cultural and artistic productions.
