Free Mover Semester

Students interested in spending a semester abroad without participating in the Exchange Program can enroll as Free-Movers (Fee-paying Visiting Students or Independent Students or Contract Students) at some foreign Universities where they can study for a semester.  The period abroad can take place:

• only once, during the 5^th year, by the Combined Bachelor and Master of Science in Law program (CLMG) students

Università Bocconi has singled out a series of schools, mainly from its own international network, which are willing to accept such students. Other schools which DO NOT accept Free-Movers students are listed in a pdf document (pdf, 51 KB) which is often updated.

The list of foreign Universities (pdf, 134 KB) is to be considered as the only valid list in terms of possibility of recognition of the tuition received by Semester Free-Movers at foreign institutions. International students or students with dual citizenship cannot apply for schools in the countries of which they hold current citizenship.

Any other option must be endorsed ex-ante, on a case-by-case basis, by the International Relations Office. The request, accompanied by a letter of motivation and information material on the University selected, has to be presented before enrolling in the foreign university as a Semester Free-Mover and handed in to the International Relations Office.

Unlike the students selected for the traditional Exchange Program, the Semester Free-Movers will have to directly contact the host University to request the programs and carry out the necessary enrolment procedures. The students will have to bear all their travel, board and accommodation expenses during their period abroad, as well as the university fees both in Italy and abroad. The student is advised to take out health insurance coverage for the period spent abroad.

Starting from the students who would like to spend a semester abroad as Free-Mover during the a.y. 2010-2011 (period abroad from July 2010 onwards), only qualified students can apply for the Free-Mover experience and they are required to proof the following:

• Course year: only fifth year students regularly enrolled can go abroad*; 
• Credits: at least 85% of 1st year and 60% of 2nd year credits and 60% of 3rd year credits; *
• Language Requirements: Language of instruction at Level B2 or higher for all languages EXCEPT English language which must be at a minimum Level B2 (obtained with a minimum grade of 24/30) or higher.

In addition, each hosting Schools has its own Requirements which have to be fulfilled by the applicant.

Students who have previously withdrawn from any edition of the Exchange Program cannot apply as Free-Mover in their Undergraduate career. 

Free-Mover Semester students can have recognized a maximum of  30 credits once back from their experience abroad.

* The calculation of minimum credits includes all the exams officially registered in your career before February 13, 2010 (N.B.: exams which are not part of the 1st and 2nd year study plan and the study plan for the 1st semester of the 3rd year are not included with the exception of maximum
one language anticipated).
